IBM & EDS for a DWP Project

We supplied a Systems Test Analyist to a project at the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP), via contract initially to EDS and subsequently to IBM.

  • Project: Customer Management System (CMS): Initial release of a new system, followed by a second release with additional functionality. Front office, customer information gathering system for the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP).  Integration with legacy back office systems.
  • Technology: Client Server GUI based development.  Curam package application, adapted to DWP specification using Java and C++.

Role: System Test Analyst, responsible for:

  • Reviewing UML design artefacts (activity diagrams and use-cases, function specifications) to ensure sufficient detail had been included to enable Test Script to be developed. Rational Rose.
  • Production of test scenarios, test conditions and test scripts. Using Rational Test Manager. Working from agreed and signed off UML design documentation. (use-cases, activity diagrams, function specifications)
  • Test execution and evaluation of test output. Defect recording and subsequent monitoring using Rational ClearQuest
  • Requirements traceability: Maintaining a complete audit trail of all testing activities to provide visibility and traceability from high level business requirements, through use- cases to test scripts.
  • Responsible for designing a process to merge the data output from Rational Tools (Test Manager and Requisite Pro) using Rational SoDa, and importing into the standard management reporting tools (Microsoft Access and Excel)
  • Automated regression testing using Rational Robot.  Conversion of manual test scripts to automated scripts, execution and monitoring of the automated scripts.
  • Testing system produced letters and notifications. Converting XML to PDF documents and use of Adobe Professional to help Compare PDF documents to find defects.

Test Tools Used:  Rational Test Manager, Rational Robot, Rational ClearQuest, Rational Requisite Pro, Rational Soda, Adobe Professional, XML Spy.
